Modernize An Old Mobile Home

Modernize an Old Mobile Home

Bringing life to an old mobile home doesn’t have to cost a fortune. With some simple upgrades to the fixtures and hardware, you can take years off your RV. Best of all, these pieces are easy to change out on your own, so you don’t have to pay a professional to do the job. Here are some quick tips to modernizing a mobile home or RV.

Upgrade the Security Features

Mobile home enhancement isn’t just about cosmetic details. Getting better security hardware for your RV could do wonders for it. Window locks and door handles are two of the most common mobile home hardware pieces that people upgrade because old locks don’t work well over time. You could choose basic white window latches or something more decorative. Either way, you will be protecting your investment by improving the security of your RV.

Get New Cabinet Hardware

Cabinetry is a big feature in mobile homes and RVs because people need storage. You could paint the surface of the cabinets to cover dated wood, or you could get new doors and drawer faces. To finish off your makeover, get some new cabinet hardware to brighten and lighten the look of your cabinets. Even if you only have a small kitchen with a vanity’s worth of cabinets, having new hardware will make the space look modern and renovated.

Update the Crank Handles

If you have crack-style windows, you could swap out your old crank handles for new ones. This will not only improve the look of your mobile home, but it will also help the windows function better. Over time, window cranks can get lodged in place because the mechanisms inside seize up. With a quick swap, your windows will function as if they’re brand new!

Change out the Upholstery

The upholstery in your mobile home is a dead giveaway for its age. If you still have fabric in there from the 70’s, it may be time for an upgrade. You could buy new upholstered seating, or you could reupholster it yourself. This would give you a chance to customize the batting and make the seats more comfortable than they are right now. If your upholstery is still fairly new and in good shape, you could shampoo it to make it feel fresher. Many carpet cleaners will do this for a low cost if you bring your RV to them. You could also use a handheld carpet shampooer for similar results.

Improve the Lighting

Many old RVs and mobile homes have dull, insufficient lighting. You could upgrade to energy efficient light fixtures and get much more light inside the space. If your windows are dark and tinted, you may consider getting new windows to brighten the RV even further. Just keep in mind the privacy concerns that may come along with that.

You can update your mobile home gradually so you don’t have to pay for a lot of changes at once. Do what you can as the money comes available, and you will transform your RV in no time.
